About MOTS-c
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA, identified in 2015 as one of the first known mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs). It is implicated as a regulator of metabolic homeostasis and mitochondrial-to-nuclear retrograde signaling.
Research interest centers on AMPK-pathway signaling, insulin-sensitivity studies, and mitochondrial-encoded signaling biology. The peptide is among the most-studied mitochondrial-derived peptides in metabolic research.
